Shuggie Otis – Inspiration Information
Album: Inspiration Information

In 1974, Shuggie Otis released “Inspiration Information”, his third and final album for Epic Records. All the songs were written and arranged by Otis himself, who played almost exclusively every musical instrument on the album (except for horns and various stringed instruments). However, despite its long-awaited impact, Inspiration Information had but one single (the title track) reach the Billboard Top 200.

“Inspiration Information” gained a huge cult following during the 1990s with the emergence of rare groove and acid jazz. It was lauded by such musical luminaries as Prince and Lenny Kravitz.

The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever (KJ Song Rec)

The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever (KJ Song Rec) | Third Monk

The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever
Album: A-Side Single of “Penny Lane”

“Strawberry Fields Forever” was inspired by Lennon’s memories of playing in the garden of a Salvation Army house named “Strawberry Field” near his childhood home. It is one of the defining works of the psychedelic rock genre and has been covered by many artists.

I was different all my life. The second verse goes, ‘No one I think is in my tree.’ Well, I was too shy and self-doubting. Nobody seems to be as hip as me is what I was saying. Therefore, I must be crazy or a genius—’I mean it must be high or low‘ “, and explaining that the song was “psycho-analysis set to music – John Lennon

The Grouch & Eligh – Lake Release (KJ Song Rec)

The Grouch & Eligh - Lake Release (KJ Song Rec) | Third Monk

We can lose focus when our thoughts are filled with too much clutter, fortunately cannabis is here to help us relax and release from the noise.

[Chorus: Eligh]
When G & E is in the flesh we fresh with style’s, give it to the crowds,
Sing it out loud, put your palm to the gods if you sick of facades,
And you wanna go down to the lake for a break,
Take this journey don’t be scared, be prepared,
For the light that shines from the top of the spine,
Not the mind to the mouth, creativity release

[Eligh:]
Sittin’ by the lake, skippin stones, rippin’ poems, thinkin’ bout what I gotta do next,
For the moment trynna get my Chi in a zone, all alone on the park bench, reading through texts.
Hard to get my shit together when the brains, forever on go.
Green light, let it all flow, let em’ all know… elbow to the gut when I’m on flow. Ho
Sittin’ by the lake, and inspire me, fire me up, cause I’m bored on the back of a pick-up truck.
Trynna pick up luck like a passerby, when everything I need to survive is in side the ride of a lifetime,
Bring on, to bring on the ultimate goal, God holds my soul.
Like a pot of Gold, when the Pot gets old, I stop drop and roll,
To the next pleateu, that’s a couple of thoughts that pass me,
Like traffic on the 101, reflection, eternal, especially… by the lake, that’s one.

[Chorus:]

[The Grouch:]
When the world is heavy on my shoulders, I can’t get a grip (grip).
I take a break, go to the lake, there I can skinny dip (dip).
Watch me skip a rock across the greatest body of water (water),
In it I see no limit, just reflections make me hollar (hollar) (yeauh),
I’m a Baller, I got balls (balls), I rest em’ at the lake edge.
Mother Earth supports my stress, cause people often fake it (fake it).
Splash I make it last until the sun can’t even take it (take it)
Have a conversation with crickets, cause I’m sick… when I kick it (kick it).

[Chorus:]
When G & E is in the flesh we fresh with style’s, give it to the crowds,
Sing it out loud, put your palm to the gods if you sick of facades,
And you wanna go down to the lake for a break,
Take this journey don’t be scared, be prepared,
For the light that shines from the top of the spine,
Not the mind to the mouth, creativity release…

Release Release Release… Release Release Release,
Release Release Release Release Release Release Release…
Release Release Release… Release Release Release… Release Release Release,
Release… Release…
Release Release Release… Release Release Release,
Release Release Release Release Release Release Release…
Release Release Release Release… Release… Release…
Release Release Release… Release.

Top 20 Best Songs of 2011 | Third Monk

Third Monk Presents the Best Songs of 2011

Best Songs of 2011 (#18 – #11)

18. A.Dd+ – Insomniac Dreaming

Featuring a neck-breaking beat from Black Milk, the track  finds A.Dd+’s Slim Gravy and Paris Pershun detailing the topics that keep them up at night. The whole venting/getting-shit-off-my-chest approach obviously isn’t new to hip-hop, but it’s rare that it’s executed this well. If you’re still sleeping on these guys, you better wake up.

17. Wale ft. Miguel – Lotus Flower Bomb

This mellow track from Wale finds him spitting verses about his lady love while Miguel provides the hook. Lotus flower is named “padma” or “kamala,” which also means vagina.

16. Vic The NorthStar – How I’m Doing

Ottawa-based emcee Vic the Northstar spits about his grind and hard work, a testament to his youth and ambition.

15. J. Cole ft. Trey Songz – Can’t Get Enough

J. Cole and Trey Songz hang with a beach full of babes in their video for Can’t Get Enough. Eventually they’re joined by Cole’s label mate Rihanna, who waves a flag, puffs on a cigar, and plays in the sand in her home country of Barbados.

14. Rockie Fresh & Casey Veggies – Duckin N’ Dodgin

Rockie Fresh and Casey Veggies were two of the nominees for the XXL Freshmen List, the two bring their summertime, cruise friendly Hip-Hop duet to the forefront with the visual at somebody’s country club.

13. The Black Keys – Lonely Boy

The Black Keys are still hot from the breakout success of their previous album Brothers, and “Lonely Boy” from their latest El Camino proves that the band’s still got a handle on crafting amazing hooks.

12. Miguel – Sure Thing

Every once in a while something comes out of those speakers and catches you off guard. Miguel’s got the same recipe as everybody else, but he’s tweaked it just enough to make his songs distinctive. The bass on Sure Thing sighs in the most soothing way just before the beat drops.

11. The Cool Kids Ft. Bun B – Gas Station

The simple hook, the patient kick drum and snaps, and Mikey’s smooth-talk laziness “Throw it in reverse for a shorty with the works/Write my number on some paper then throw it in her purse/As I ride by, first things first/nine times out of ten that cool shit usually works” all recall vintage Cool Kids.
