Cosmic Flower Unfolding – Psychedelic Animation on Abstract Connections (Video)

Cosmic Flower Unfolding - Psychedelic Animation on Abstract Connections (Video) | Third Monk image 1

Cosmic Flower Unfolding is a psychedelic animation on the constant flow of emerging and dissolving oceanic, futuristic, and mandala forms. It is a tribute to abstraction, its connection to the inner space we inhabit and how it can be externalized.

My abstract animations investigate the metaphysical features of reality. They are designed to stimulate archetypal associations and invite the viewer to make personal connections to the visual and auditory experience without any reliance on narrative or spoken language.

My work is abstract by nature and uses non narrative film making techniques. The undercurrents of my work point to themes centered around time, cycles, the concept of infinity, and the similarities between artificial and natural systems. In a world where technology and artificial systems are becoming more prevalent, my films are a reminder that they are both a product of nature. –  Ben Ridgway, Animator

This psychedelic art gallery showcases the surreal imagination of Larry Carlson.

Each image has an out of this world feeling. The colors and visuals all coalesce with the viewer’s imagination, it’s like looking into an optical illusion where there’s more behind each artistic piece.

Metamorphosis – Hunter S. Thompson Psychedelic Animation (Video)

Metamorphosis - Hunter S. Thompson Psychedelic Animation (Video) | Third Monk image 2

This trippy animation is loaded with visual references to the writings of Franz Kafka and Hunter S. Thompson.

The psychedelic piece of art was created by String Theory for online bookseller Good Books International that donates 100% of its profits to Oxfam, an organization that fights poverty.

We dug through the darkest recesses of our minds and studio to create original music and sound design for this masterpiece. Working with squirming, analog-tape leeches, moaning coeds, screaming guitar goats, and brain-exploding psychedelia, we were certainly in our element.

Plus, it’s always fun to rock out and get a little weird for a good cause! – String Theory

Each of Iain Macarthur’s masterful illustrations, created through intricate pattern, depict an animal geometrically.

He describes his own work as:

Surreal and unique in its own way.

Using mostly pencil, watercolours and pigment pens, I create portraits of ordinary people but create them in an unusual way by, embellishing patterns and watercolour effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect—transforming their faces from something plain to something entirely bizarre and wonderful at the same time. – Iain Macarthur

I am influenced by many artists and illustrators – all with differing styles and mediums – and have turned to their work for artistic stimulation over the years.

Among them are Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Lucian Freud, Jenny Saville, James Jean, David Choong Lee, Sergio Toppi and Ashley Wood.

I’ve also gained much inspiration through cartoons art and lighting; people’s facial expressions, eyes and different forms of organic patterns and shapes. – Iain Macarthur
